Orion Solar was formed in 2004 to distribute the range of solar powered LED lighting solutions, designed and manufactured by Carmanah Technologies of Canada.
Since 1996 Carmanah has been engineering some of the most innovative solar LED lighting technology on the market. Delivering tough, reliable solutions that are deployed in mission-critical applications around the world, Carmanah solar technology is trusted by some of the most demanding customers in the world. The US Coast Guard, NASA, international military organisations and municipalities around the world have chosen Carmanah solar technology for their operations.
Orion Solar has evolved as a key regional marketing partner for Carmanah, supplying and supporting the full range of Carmanah products throughout Australia and neighbouring countries. We have developed the expertise to specify and design lighting solutions to meet the standards and regulations of the marine and aviation industries, plus public area lighting for local government.
Over the years Orion has added to the product range with products from other manufacturers such as Sabik from Finland and our own innovations like our Rigel bollard and Rigel solar light controller.
Orion Solar are corporate members of The Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IES).
All solar LED lighting systems move energy through a series of conversion steps that turns it from sunshine into LED illumination. Each step of the process counts. At Orion, we don’t just integrate components; we engineer the movement of energy through the system to ensure our solutions offer superior performance. We also incorporate intelligent energy management technology that enables us to produce light output levels equivalent to AC powered lighting that meet the Australian lighting standards while remaining completely off the grid.
Carmanah and Orion have responded to an increased demand for solar powered public lighting with illumination levels that will meet the Australian standards. With the addition of LED luminaries from Ruud Lighting in the USA, the combination is now ideal for pathways, parking lots and residential streets. Many Councils are now turning to Orion to meet the public area lighting needs where grid connection is expensive or difficult to provide. The result is an easier installation, a lower cost to implement, lower energy and maintenance costs and recognition that the Council is doing the right thing to help the environment.
