CARMANAH LIGHTS

Carmanah Lights have been engineered to be extremely
durable and reliable while
installed nearly anywhere on
Earth. They will survive extended exposure to salt water and salty
air, extreme swings in temperature (from-40°C / -40°F to +80°C / 176°F), shock, heavy vibration
and UV degradation.
Carmanah Lights feature a
number of proprietary technical innovations and competitive advantages. Below is an overview
of each component of the lights that, when combined, create the most advanced, solar-powered navigation and safety lights
available in the world today:

Orion Solar Solutions is the Australian distributor for Carmanah Technologies Corporation of Victoria, Canada, the world leader in solar-powered, LED lighting solutions to the aviation, marine and transportation industries. This publicly traded company turns over in excess of $25 million and has achieved annual growth of over 100%. Military and Coast Guard contracts underpin Carmanah's growth and the company recently purchased a solar power systems designer and manufacturer, launching it into the solar power supply business.
Building upon Carmanah's success overseas, Orion is striving to become the leading supplier of it's kind in Australia and New Zealand. During our first year of operation, we have supplied complete airfield lighting systems, maritime navigation aids, helipad lights, bridge and tower obstruction lights and public lighting for parks and walkways.
Orion has also been appointed the Australian distributor for Infinity Inc of Korea, a manufacturer of solar powered tiles and road studs. The SolarCap tiles and cats eyes complement the Carmanah products in the landscape and roadway markets.
Orion adds value to it's imported products with the addition of locally manufactured hardware and accessories and by the supply of complete integrated solutions. One example of Orion's finished products is our solar-lit bollard, which incorporates a Carmanah 601 marine light.
Our SolarCap Tiles are fully self-contained, having eight built-in pv solar cells, a set of four super bright Light Emitting Diodes (LED) and an ultracapacitor for its energy storage component. The cells can take in enough energy to power the light for up to 12 hours. If the tile is located in a shaded area, it will still absorb enough energy, on a sunny day, to become fully charged within six hours. Even on a rainy day, a tile will absorb enough energy, over an eight-hour period, to build up a full charge. In full sunlight, a tile will become fully charged in as little time as one to three hours.
These tiles require no wiring to an external power source, which means that they can be installed virtually anywhere, and in any orientation. They can be mounted parallel to the ground-along a walkway, garden path or embedded into a set of steps, perpendicularly-on a gate, the side of a building, or a driveway entry post.
SolarCap chose to use an ultracapacitor for its energy storage component. There are two distinct advantages of using ultracapacitors over rechargeable batteries. One: Life Span. Rechargeable batteries need to be replaced every five years, while the ultracapacitor will last for over ten years (maybe even indefinitely) without needing to be replaced. Two: Energy Storage Capacity Degradation. Rechargeable batteries lose their ability to store energy and deliver it to a load as they age. (Carmanah lights avoid this by the use of their energy management techniques). Ultracapacitors have shown very little loss of capacity with age and use, at far more demanding rates of charge and discharge than the SolarCap's solar cells and LEDs require.
Each tile has a built in photo detector that automatically turns the light on at dusk and then off again at sunrise. Additionally, each tile has a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +167 degrees Fahrenheit, making them suitable for outdoor use almost anywhere.
SolarCap's decorative tiles are available in six attractive colors, red, orange, yellow, white, blue and green. Each tile measures 200 mm by 200 mm by 60 mm, making it suitable for laying with standard paving bricks. The main body of each tile is made of waterproof ruggedized glass, which is permanently sealed to prevent access to the active components inside. The outer two-inch thick edge of each tile is rough finished, to enable it to be easily glued or cemented into place. In addition, all of the active components within each tile are made of non-hazardous non-polluting materials, making them completely environmentally friendly.
